In many places this awesome event is greeted with indifference. So many empty pews bespeak a lack of faith that God is truly present in the world in each Mass. "You led us through fire and through water, but then you brought us relief. When the dust settles and the activity of life slows we are granted a vantage point from which to serenely look back with reflection.
Thus was presented an opportunity for me, while awaiting a flight from Iraq to Kuwait, to revisit the many events, people and challenges I experienced in months of deployment.I now make the transition back into civilian life after service as a chaplain in support of American military, civilians and Catholics from far-flung places around the globe. The fires the psalmist describes were found in the fear of a mortal enemy and the necessity of wearing armored protection and travelling in armored vehicles and with an armed enlisted assistant at all times. The fires were in the desert summer heat, in the trials of winter cold and sleeplessness, of living without many of the conveniences Americans would consider basic such as potable running water, flush toilets and fresh hot food. The waters were in the January snowstorms and the rain that quickly turned the powder-fine dust of the desert landscape into a mud which held fast in thick layers to the soles of one’s boots. The fires and the waters were in the trials of adjusting to frequent and arduous travel by flights and convoys to remote locations, punctuated by short periods of relief afforded by a few days of rest before setting out again. I gather that locals have ways of evading the restrictions but do not know the details. Which lets me try to figure out how I would do it. The obvious solution is a proxy server. You connect to it from inside China, it connects you to any other site you like, blocked or not. The obvious problem is that whoever is doing the blocking notices and blocks the proxy server. To which one less obvious and so more interesting solution is … . Start with ten thousand proxy servers—or at least ten thousand URL’s, possibly all connected to the same hardware. You email each of your customers a URL to use. They report the URL’s they get to their employer, who blocks them. At which point you observe which URL's are blocked and note which of your customers got those URL's, hence which of your customers you suspect of being spies. Obviously they are, in a variety of ways, but I am thinking of one—behavior associated with sex and courtship. The traditional pattern, in our society and many others, was for men to make advances and women to accept or reject them. The normal assumption was that most men were happy, given the opportunity, to go to bed with almost any reasonably attractive woman, most women much more selective. Over my lifetime that has changed. Substantial numbers of women, in at least some social circles, seem to have shifted to something more like the male pattern. Which raises an obvious pair of questions. Why did the difference exist and why did it, to at least some degree, disappear? One obvious explanation is prudential. Women get pregnant, men don't. It is often asserted that the U. S. Then, in an online exchange, someone posted a link to an estimate of the relevant figures. S.
I am reminded of a similar factoid that used to be in circulation to the effect that the U.S. The new spring pistol match season begins this week.
Oops.I'm about out of ammo. Time to reload some. Oops. I'm out of brass. I too was a victim of the fashion faux pas that were foisted on us in that Unfortunate Decade. C. I haven't laughed that hard since reading Crystal's best stuff. Labels: big fun, funny, heh, History, memories, popular culture.
In the morning, I’m taking a friend out to do some shooting. He’s never shot at a private range before. It’s in a cow pasture, actually. While it’s short on benches, shade, and target backing, it’s long on privacy and safety and the opportunity to shoot when and how I want. I’m the rangemaster when I shoot, and I like it that way. Lowers the stress significantly. I’m checking in the sight-in on some guns for a turkey shoot on Monday. Yes, the sun is all that required for this little guy to power up and illuminate your garden or lawn area with great pride. Take one or two today to guard your home. It is in fact his little gnome heart that drives him to fly the good flight, and fight the good fight. Propelled by the Gnome Code of Honor: "No Hat, No Mercy," he patrols the skies daily, steadfastly united with his brethren. This year I invited my teamie, Wendy and her husband, to join us. It's a good thing I had a crafty weekend LAST weekend, because it's not looking good for this weekend. So many things on the agenda!! Not to mention I started reading the Outlander Series. Wowza, great book. I can't put it down and its a HUGE book. The idea was to create a new "Soviet Zion," in a socialist framework. The Stalin answer to settle the "Jewish Question. Stalin’s two purges to stamp out Yiddish culture, the Holocaust, and rising anti-Semitism—whoever dreamed up the gasification name might want to rethink the global wisdom of using that label to describe Gazprom’s natural gas projects. When translating its filing into English, it's a good thing Gazprom knew the difference between the prepositions 'with' and 'of. I recently featured another beautiful old blue door. I had the most glorious walk this morning. It was one of those sun-drenched Spring mornings, with a cool, crisp breeze, and the air was fresh and clear. Every dancing shadow was sharp-etched and lovely, every finely veined leaf suffused with a deeper meaning, every branch lifted a multitude of tiny twigs to the sky in praise to God. It was one of those rare times when my eyes were unclouded by tiredness, guilt, discouragement, or illness, and the world seemed fair and unspoiled, like it was made new this morning just for me. It struck me that this was a small taste of how Adam and Eve must have seen the world, in all its shining newness, when they walked with God in the morning of the world, and discovered its beauties for the first time, through eyes unmarred by sin, doubt, and sorrow. It made me wonder why they gave all this up to follow their own path away from God. It's not much of a deal is it: "Here, swap this fantastic and wonderful beauty, this serenity and bliss, this tender enjoyment of one another, this intimate walk with God, for a world filled with despair, misery, decay, confusion, pain, and death. "But of course that's not the choice that was presented to them. Satan painted the way he wanted them to take in bright and glowing colours: "God didn't really say that you would die! He's actually trying to keep from you the greatest secret of all: the knowledge of good and evil.
They were not to make an idol, something to worship. You laugh at the primitiveness of these people? Well, we make idols of things all the time whether it be sports, money, education, entertainment, or other things. Speaking of entertainment, in the early days of our country Congress even stated that the official who attended theater entertainments wasn’t fit to serve his country. Yet, many Americans enjoy several theater entertainments each night on television. We have created monuments to stand for things other than God, as symbols of our freedom as in Lady Liberty or our power and might as in the numerous historical monuments around the country. Ultimately, as a nation we worship ourselves. Yet another sharpie sketch, today being a shot of a Titan picking up a mountain he's planning to hurl at a pesky Olympian. I drew so many pictures of Titan's throwing mountains it's not even funny. Like bees. Because, you know, the way insects mate. What was he thinking! "Are you talking about sexual exhaustion? He didn't have any history of heart problems. This is a delightful and unusual little film. via Youtube:.
The Cup of Tea by Mary Cassatt Mary Cassatt's tea paintings put me in a world apart.Even when I have guests, I'm never anything as elegant as the ladies in Cassatt's paintings. I could get out proper cups and saucers and serve nicely. I don't ever think of it, though. Maybe it's because my focus is on having some tea with my book or with the movie instead of my focus being on the tea itself. Hmmm. The Iris is the state flower of Tennessee. Though not my favorite flower by a long shot, I do like them and see a lot of them around here. The Memphis Botanic Gardens has a lovely Iris Garden, and The Daughter and I spent the afternoon there recently. The Daughter got a picture of this heron, though: Here's a view of the bridge in the Japanese Garden: I found a feature I had never noticed before: No matter how many times I go, it seems like there's always something "new". He looks older in this than his years, and she looks younger. This isn't the best effort for either of them. My favorite is Kay Thompson, better known as the author of the Eloise books. It was worth a try in my efforts to broaden my Christmas music horizons, and, after all, I loved what Johnny Cash did here:But. but. I don't like his Christmas CD The Christmas Spirit at all. Once was definitely enough for me. Audio recording of Fr. Fryar's sermon on "Preparing for the Nativity of Our Lord" at St. Advertisement . As always this method is Mangala Barve's but recipe is mine. I made it for this guy who visits us once a year to help us with our paper work. This year he retired from Govt. Along with lunch it was Kothimbir Vadi and Manisha's Zatpat Rasmalai for him. Thanks again Manisha, this is the second time I made it. Like we did for the Nachani Kobi Palak Kabab.
The next verse gives the characteristics of these ungodly people.Grumbling and faultfinding is stock in trade for the world. However, Christians who work in the world find it easy to pick up the practice. Instead of providing light, we collect the darkness. Let us remember that Jude says it is an ungodly practice. One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. ” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Lots of written work has taken up my time over the past week or so, catching up on all the articles that I've done the modelling for, but not put the actions into words, so to speak. I did manage to make a bit of progress on my pair of Lledo GUY Tipplers for Maudetown Colliery, that were started yonks ago and left in a half-weathered/half-detailed state. The weathering needs to be finished and some suitable coal slurry loads added to the tipplers, which I hope to achieve by the end of the week, before the lorries can go back into safe storage pending progress on the Maudetown extension. However, it's been a busy time in the Dent household and we have a new member of the Collective: Pepper, the white Border Collie. HPLAYER Specifies a default layer for new hatches and fills.
